This is my latest attempt with oil colour. Done probably in June 2015. I started using aquarelle, and hated its texture and then started going over it with oil paint. Yes, should not do it, but i love the result. This, just like all of my oil painting portraits are inspired by the amazing art of the Fayum mummy portraits from Coptic period of Roman occupation in Egypt.

As I was going through my usb drives I found some really old work from back in 1999, before I went to art school. They are charcoal drawings, quite naturalistic and are depicting ancient greek statues.
I am not a big fan of being an artist and using the work of others where you can have your own work instead! Therefore I created this wee presentation background to use when talking about my animation-art practice. It is created in Adobe's Flash and portrays me while animating (hand-drawn animation with a light-box). I like the mixture of the drawn line and the digital. I believe it represents the variety in my work well. I liked it so much I ended up using it as my header image for this website. So, here it is:
I started a new series of characters for a children's animation. Oratio is my first character. I cannot say I am overly pleased with him but it is a start to a new series and that is always a good thing. At the end of the day it takes a lot of work usually to have a great result. I have done a pencil drawing and a colour marker drawing. I do not like the use of the marker. The pencil drawing is quite nice, one can see the sensitivity of the drawing coming across but I think the colour marker version is too crude. I believe the next step is to find a happy medium between sensitivity and colour. The character was created last week. Ratio is a kind-hearted truck driver. He is driving alone all day and all night and because he has all this time to think about the world and intelligent stuff he is extra smart. The few moments he has for himself to relax and interact with his friends he always ends up saving the moment with his wise advice. |
